Introduction of New Colors for 3M Littmann Stethoscopes

New Colors for the Holiday Selling Season

In time for the upcoming holiday selling season, we are excited to announce the immediate availability of two new colors to the Littmann line: “Chocolate” and “Pine Green.” In addition, we are excited to announce broader availability of “Gray.” 

The additional new catalog numbers and product descriptions are as follows: 

Selecting the Right Colors

To be sure their decisions around color were on target, 3M employed a color consultant, conducted focus panels and performed surveys around the country.

Rationale for Color Selection: Cardiology Line

The men and women who become MDs and ultimately use a cardiology-grade stethoscope are hard working, extremely bright and driven. They are equipped to deal with trauma, life and death.  They communicate their professionalism in many aspects of their lifestyle, from the car that they drive, to the watch that they wear.  For this reason the new colors for our cardiology line, chocolate and gray, are serious colors associated with quality, function and good taste.   

• Chocolate brown is selling very well in accessory categories for both women and men in shoes, handbags, office/desk accessories and luggage.  It is another alternative to black that is more appealing and newer in the market.  A Littmann stethoscope is not only a valuable clinical tool, but also a fashion statement, and chocolate has been a best seller for major brands such as Coach®, Ralph Lauren® and Hugo Boss®.
• Our Littmann gray is a sophisticated, serious color that is up-trending in the high-end market in apparel, cars and home furnishings.  It is an alternative to black, and is often seen as a men's color in professional work wear, although women are buying more now.  The tone of gray we have selected is often seen as a sleek, modern color, which goes with stainless steel, polished metals and chrome trims on cars, accessories and electronics. 

Rationale for Color Selection: Classic and Select

Pine Green is a part of the “Global Influences” trend story. The colors associated with the global influences are nature-inspired, earth-tone colors.  These colors are casual and real, and they are non-gender specific.  They are demographically driven, rather than trend-driven.  Pine green is a universally appealing color, which has broad acceptance in a wide range of products from home to sporting goods.  It is an eco-friendly, positive color.
